Inside South Africa's Biggest White Slum

From Youtube channel: Wide Awake Podcast

Coronation Park Relocation: A community of around 300 poor white South Africans initially lived in Coronation Park, Krugersdorp, but were relocated to a predominantly black township called Pango Camp Manziel, outside Johannesburg near Krugersdorp.

Living Conditions and Community: Residents of Pango Camp Manziel live rent-free, only paying for electricity. Despite challenging living conditions, the community is diverse and residents strive to help each other, regardless of race.

Employment and Addiction Issues: Many residents struggle with unemployment and addiction, with some turning to drugs or alcohol due to difficult circumstances, including unfulfilled job promises and personal losses.

Safety and Racial Dynamics: Despite some racial tensions, the mixed community is considered safer than other areas. Residents report better safety in the camp compared to other parts of Krugersdorp, with community-driven justice systems contributing to this sense of security.

Perceptions and Adaptation: Initially apprehensive about moving into a predominantly black township, some white residents now express respect and mutual support with their black neighbors, despite lingering prejudices from apartheid-era attitudes.
