White Squatter Camps: Many impoverished white South Africans now live in makeshift squatter camps, often with no electricity, built on former dumping grounds. These camps, like one outside Johannesburg, house some of the country's most disadvantaged people, primarily women and children.
Lack of Support and Discrimination: Residents of these camps receive little to no government or public support. They face discrimination in accessing services, with some denied help solely based on their race, including hospital treatments and school admissions.
Safety and Violence Issues: The camps' inhabitants, including children, report high levels of violence and discrimination from the surrounding community. They face threats, assaults, and police neglect, contributing to a pervasive sense of insecurity.
Desperation and Desire to Leave: Many residents express a strong desire to leave South Africa for a better life due to the systemic racism and lack of opportunities. They feel forgotten and marginalized in their own country.
